World’s Largest Egg

There isn’t much happening in Winlock, Washington today but for a time it was the second largest egg producing area in the country. In the 1920s a quarter million cases of eggs were shipped to market every year. In 1923, to celebrate the opening of the Pacific Highway Bridge over the Columbia River and a faster way to ship eggs to Oregon, the first giant egg was built. Replacements of plastic and fiberglass followed. The forth and current egg is made of fiberglass.

The egg is displayed on a pole in a little park in the center of town. There are a couple of concrete tables. A fence with several gates surrounds the park. We did not go into the park or even check to see if the gates were locked. The exterior of the Egg and Poultry Co-op, located across the railroad tracks, has been completely restored.

Parking for any size vehicle is available along the streets on either side of the park.  Egg   46.49346, -122.93808
