Sam’s Throne
Sam’s Throne is very popular for rock climbing and hiking to the scenic views along the bluffs. A small undeveloped campground features pull offs along the east side of a dirt road. The west side has a few sites under the trees. The only thing provided are two vault toilets.
We did not attempt the trails as they looked very rough. The campsites are packed dirt and fairly accessible. Watch for poison ivy!
The pull offs are large enough for small RVs. The campground road has a few humps and potholes that can be skirted. It ends in a large turn around. We drove from the south on Hwy 123 which has many curves but can still be easily driven with an RV. Continuing north along Hwy 123 to the little town of Mt Judea is much different though. The road is steeply downhill with hairpin bends. I can’t find any information about the road grades but we were in first gear which is unusual. Trucks are prohibited and there’s very little traffic.
