Bay Furnace Campground

After spending a noisy night in the Kewadin Casino in the village of Christmas, we moved to the much quieter Bay Furnace Campground. The campground has 50 sites. Almost half are first come/first serve which fill by mid afternoon or earlier.

Since the sites are large we again shared with our friend, Sally, paying a double fee as we did for our stay in the previous Michigan national forest campground. We had one of the few sites with access to a little slice of Lake Superior shoreline.

A short trail in the day use area leads to the ruins of a blast furnace where pig iron was made from 1870 to 1877.

All of the campsites are considered accessible with extended tops on the tables, high fire rings and hard packed ground. The trail to the furnace is hard packed dirt and boardwalk and is accessible. Campground  46.44293, -86.70867
