The depression of the 1930s left many young men without jobs and few opportunities on the horizon. To remedy the situation President Roosevelt started the Civilian Conservation Corps. Three million men participated in the CCC. They were provided with shelter, clothing, food, and $30.00 a month from which they were allowed to keep $5.00. The remaining $25.00 was sent home to support their families.

The men at Hollis were farm boys either working on family property or as share croppers. As CCC workers they planted trees and built roads and trails. Very little is left of the camp, just a few foundations and the fireplace from the mess hall. A short, paved path with interpretive signs loops through the camp area. This site has deteriorated and most of the signs can not be read. The last section of the path is broken and rough.

The path is wide and fairly smooth almost to the end. Wheelchair users can turn where the path deteriorates or get assistance to finish the loop.

The parking lot is large enough for RVs.  CCC  34.84512, -93.106
